would you recommend zeiss 50mm makro over zeiss 50mm 1.4? Is there much difference
in light loss from f1.4 to f2 and is makro much sharper than 1.4? Thank you!

You asked too much questions. Perhaps watch the Zeiss 50mm
ƒ/1.4 T* Planar ZF.2 video to compare for yourself?
Love fest over - ... ( 9 months ago by mikeismad61)
Love fest over - I've had my doubts regarding just how good Zeiss lenses are - often the reviews are mixed but people still rav about Zeiss glass, latest example form Ken Rockwell states:this big, expensive Zeiss lens with impressive pedigree performs worse than the Canon 50mm f/2.5 Macro, Canon 50mm f/1.8 EF II and even Nikon 55mm f/2.8 AI-s with Canon Adapter, It performs well, just not as well as those other
lenses. Worse, it's electronic focus indication was off

Oh, dear, not another I-Trust-Ken-Rockwell's-Reviews follower. We have a little homework
for you to do today: Go to his website, go to About page, and read the entire Introduction part, very carefully.
Hello and thank you ... ( 3 months ago by theallmikey)
Hello and thank you for all your videos; I've watched a lot of them and they were very informative. I have a question, if you don't mind; you've reviewed the Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 macro and gave it your highest score; it sure does look like an
impressive lens. Is this Zeiss still better than the nikkor or are they truly completely comparable? I'm a Dentist and I need a makro lens for scientific documentation, and wish to make the right choice. Thank you!
They're comparable ... ( 3 months ago by Lilkiwiguy87)
They're comparable but there's at least one weakness in each. The 60mm offers neutral colors, autofocus (helps your patients not keeping their mouths open for a while), fully compatible with R1C1 close-up flash, sealed against moisture (from patients' breath), and 1:1 magnification. The 50mm has none;
very warm colors, R1C1 works in manual mode, manual focus only, not sealed against moisture, and 1:2X magnification. Definitely go with the 60mm to save time (and your patients' time, too).
Thank you so much ... ( 3 months ago by theallmikey)
Thank you so much for such a well rounded and timely answer! I appreciate it a lot. I'm actually in the process of buying my first DSLR rig (I've used Film SLR for
a while now) and I'm choosing the brand based on the optics. I'm not sure what Canon glass is capable of, and the Zeiss seems like an interesting choice as it's available for both Canon EOS and Nikon mounts. Seeing all the limitations of the Zeiss re-opens my search for the right camera system f
or me.
Hey there; did you ... ( 1 month ago by theallmikey)
Hey there; did you have the privilege of testing the Zeiss 50mm makro and the Nikkor 60mm micro with the R1C1? Can you comment a little about the vignetting with it attached? And when you say it works with the Zeiss in manual mode, you
mean it doesn't offer TTL flash metering? I'd have to set the flash power output for proper exposure? (I'm only assuming this is so because of the lack of distance info CPU in the lens, correct?) Thanks you guys; you've been helpful with this matter :)
Yup and vignetting ... ( 1 month ago by Lilkiwiguy87)
Yup and vignetting is still there. Vignetting cannot be fixed
with a flash. R1C1 works in manual mode if you have the older ZF version; iTTL is offered with ZF.2 because of the CPU contacts.

I see; may I ask at what aperture does the vignatting goes away? (if
 you happen remember)

Oh it's the same? I didn't realize that :) Great; I just feared that since the R1C1 is made for
lenses with a smaller filter thread than the Zeiss', the vignetting would be more pronounced. Thanks :)
Yup, same. The R1C1 ... ( 1 month ago by Lilkiwiguy87)
Yup, same. The R1C1 kit comes with filter rings that vary in common filter thread diameter (from 52mm to 77mm). Simply attach the SY-1-67 (67mm) ring onto the 50mm
Makro then attach the SB-R200s. We'd advise you to rent the R1C1 and 50mm Makro to try out first before making the purchase. It's a little awkward to work with than your typical old school macro flash ring.
I'll do that if the ... ( 1 month ago by theallmikey)
I'll do that if the rental firm has it in stock; for some strange reason, the ones I found all only stock Zeiss lenses with the ZE mount... I'll keep on looking and give it a shot though! :) Thanks again for the info; this was the X-factor; that "one thing" I didn't take in considaration earlier, and now my fears are
 put to rest :)
ZE is Canon EOS ... ( 1 month ago by Lilkiwiguy87)
ZE is Canon EOS mount and R1C1 won't work on a Canon camera. ZF and ZF.2 are Nikon F mount. You'll need a Nikon F mount Zeiss lens and a Nikon camera in
order for R1C1 to work properly.
By the way; can you ... ( 1 month ago by theallmikey)
By the way; can you attach filters onto the R1C1 body? Or to the adaptor rings? I was thinking of using a circular polarizing filter to reduce the glare seen on intra-oral documentations (considering
the direction of the light). Teeth and mucosa are highly reflective (especially when moist) so that might help out a bit; I'm not sure if such a filter will change the color characteristics of the scene, or if it will actually work. I know it will darker it for sure by a stop or so. Any thoughts
? :)
Yup; that's the ... ( 1 month ago by theallmikey)
Yup; that's the problem I was referring
 to :)
Unfortunately, no, ... ( 1 month ago by Lilkiwiguy87)
Unfortunately, no, you can't attach a glass filter for two reasons. One, the mounting ring doesn't have a filter thread on the front. Two, it's not recommended to attach the adapter ring onto the glass filter because the weight will strip the filter
thread on your lens. You can use diffusers to soften the light. Luckily for you, Cameron called our dentist for am advice. He said, "give your patient a cottonmouth then use the diffusers on the flashes. The mouth won't be too reflective." :)

FYI: We're not dentists, you probably understand his language. In plain english, we think he meant to give your patient a dry mouth as in no salvia. Open the mouth and keep the air spray running for a couple of minutes.
